I just got back into livejournal, and it'd be nice to have some friends who are also moms, so here we go :)

Hobbies: Reading (everyone says that, lol), especially books about globalization, postcolonialism, and nationalism; writing poetry when I can; amateur birdwatching; watching sports (I'm obsessed with the NY Giants and the NJ Devils); shopping for myself and my baby

More about me: I'm currently a graduate student. I'm pursuing my MA in Global Affairs, which will be followed (hopefully) with a PhD in the same subject. I'd really like to meet some other moms who are students/grad students, so we can compare experiences :). Very few of my classmates have kids, so I feel kind of lonely sometimes, lol. I'm a huuuuge sports fan, as I mentioned above, and lots of my journal entries will mention my favorite teams. My husband and I are hunting for our first apartment (we're living with my mom right now to save money), so that's a big deal in my life as well.

As for parenting style, I'm not one of those super-serious moms, and I tend to joke about raising my kid a lot. I don't believe that a woman (or anyone, really) should be solely defined by being a parent, and I think it's incredibly important to have a full life outside of your kid. I just try and do the best I can for my daughter, and I hope I'm doing well enough :)

OK, So I am very new to this, and hope I am doing this right; my disclaimer.  I'm a stay at home mom (SAHM???) with my one child, a very stubborn, willful and charming little creature.  So you can only imagine how fricking nuts I really am....
I'm pretty much bored and feel the need to reach other to others. 
It would be very nice to meet local mothers with the same age and development skill as my daughter.  As the onlychild, poor little girl gets just as lonely as mom does.  The truth hurts, and I'm not the kind of mom that goes to the park and strikes up a conversation and the following my daughter and I have a full social calender.  It is my unfortunate truth.  How ironic that my daughter is more socailable than I am!
Hobbies include.. a whole lot of reading.  I work the local used bookstore racket.    I like to write too..   I am a old school diarist, ink and paper.   I get alone-Zen time at the gym on the treadmill...
So, here i am seeking liberation and expansion in a unknown territory...  one can hope the natives are friendly.
As a sidenote...    I"M SO EXCITED TO SEE PRINCESS AND THE FROG TOMORROW....    hahah@ myself...   was not one for Disney Princess flicks before motherhood....
